Kim Fuller Announces Retirement as Executive Director of Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historical Park

PLAINS, GEORGIA — The Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historical Park has announced the retirement of Executive Director Kim Carter Fuller, effective March 1. Fuller joined the organization in 2023 and has led the nonprofit during a period of continued growth and community engagement. Prior to joining the Friends organization, Fuller had a long and respected career as an educator, bringing her passion for learning, public service, and community involvement to the role. Fuller is the niece of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, and the daughter of Billy Carter. Her connection to the Carter family and to the community of Plains, Georgia, brought a unique and personal perspective to her leadership of the organization.
The Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historical Park is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the National Park Service in preserving the history and legacy of President Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Established in 2012, the organization raises funds for educational programs, enhances visitor experiences, and helps maintain historic sites throughout the park.
Among its key initiatives, the organization supports educational and interpretive programming, collaborates with the National Park Service to preserve historic locations such as the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park — including the Plains High School Museum and the Carter Boyhood Farm — and works to keep the town of Plains vibrant as a center for learning and community engagement.
In 2021, the Plains Better Hometown organization merged with the Friends group, bringing with it several important community assets including The Plains Inn, Buffalo Cafe, the Plains Antique Mall, and the Plains Community Center. Friends Chairman of the Board John Powell praised Fuller’s leadership and dedication. “Kim and her many years of experience will be greatly missed,” Powell says. “We are grateful for her dedicated service to the Friends organization and to the Plains community. We look forward to continuing to work with her in her new role as Carter Family Legacy Liaison.”
In that role, Fuller will continue to support the organization’s mission and help strengthen the connection between the Carter family legacy and the work of the Friends group and the National Park Service.The Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historical Park continues its mission of preserving the Carter legacy while promoting Plains as a place where visitors from around the world can learn about the values of public service, humanitarian leadership, and community involvement that define the Carter story.
